Once I was REJECTED for it, but now, with a proud & heartwarming smile, I got the completion certificate signed by Dr. Siddiqa Ma’am in her office π
It was a 6-month internship. I chose to do it online because I was in Bangalore completing my master’s from the Indian Institute of Psychology and Research.
So the story of rejection is as follows:
It was a time when the lockdown was easing, but anxiety about my career was not! Consequently, I felt like I should get my hands on something that makes me employable, so I reached out to my professors & got a reference to Siddiqa Ma’am. I went to her clinic & directly asked for a job or internship under her.
As you are anticipating, yes, I got rejected there because of 3 reasons:
1). I was in my bachelor’s. (I never liked this reason, & that’s why when my juniors reach out to me, I encourage them like anything. Yeah, I do what I wished someone did for me!)
2). Because I was not in my master’s program! (I’m not sorry to quote it exactly as it was given to me. However, that doesn’t mean Siddiqa Ma’am didn’t facilitate me—she didπ€)
3). This reason has to do with the complete field of Psychology and Mental Health: Internships are paid, not in the sense that you will get paid. No! No! No! It’s you who has to pay! At that moment, I was looking for employment, so even if I was offered an internship, I would have just thought, why is it that I don’t have money?
Regarding the same, Siddiqa Ma’am suggested the most important thing!
That was to find a job & earn money. She referred me to a very reputable person. I didn’t get the job there, but I had a very interesting meeting with that person, & that was possible because I had the references of my mentors.
Mentors & Seniors are important!
I also received this note from Siddiqa Ma’am:
“Anmol, you are quite good in many ways, especially your reading and writing skills (articles). You are quite passionate about helping people with mental health issues. It had been a wonderful six months working with you on different aspects of being an effective therapist. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.”
To my juniors, I would like to say, you will get all you want, just be persistent π
With everyone’s contribution in some way or the other,
Your Psychologist,
