What is school?
A place where students learn and teachers teach. That was my definition until I became a Special Educator...
What makes a school ideal?
It’s not the infrastructure or the study materials; it’s something far more profound. I discovered this during my first Coding Class. We didn’t have a smart TV or a projector, so I wrote the code on a whiteboard, guiding the students step-by-step. I led them from installing VS Code to writing their very first lines of code. When they ran it and saw their own names appear on the screen, the room erupted in pure joy. Each student was calling out, “Sir, see, my name is here!”, “Ma’am, see my name!”
We celebrated that success like nothing else, and that memory remains a powerful lesson for me. That moment taught me that an ideal school is built not on technology, but on the pure joy of discovery. Even now, with a fully equipped computer lab, I strive every day to recreate that feeling.
I believe a school is a sacred place, blessed by the Goddess of Knowledge, Saraswati. It is about the giving and receiving of knowledge through a connection so pure that it’s reflected in a famous couplet by Sant Kabir:
เคुเคฐु เคोเคตिเคจ्เคฆ เคฆोเค เคเคก़े, เคाเคे เคฒाเคूं เคชांเคฏ ।
เคฌเคฒिเคนाเคฐी เคुเคฐु เคเคชเคจो, เคिเคจ เคोเคตिเคจ्เคฆ เคฆिเคฏो เคฌเคคाเคฏ ॥
This means that if both the Guru (teacher) and God are standing before you, you should bow to the Guru first, for the Guru is the one who showed you the path to God.
Teachers are the medium through which knowledge flows. In the process, we build memories, bonds, and experiences that we cherish for a lifetime. I believe this sacred connection is felt most profoundly in special schools. The satisfaction of seeing a special student become independent is immeasurable.
An ideal school focuses on holistic development that helps every student become self-reliant. The phrase “one student at a time” is truly empowering, because we see independence taking root in each one.
Special are the Students.
Special are the Educators.
Special are the Teachings.
Special are the Learnings.
Special are the Beginnings.
Special is the Journey...
